Celebrate the Season with Free Local Family Fun

If your family is like most families, your calendar gets very full as the holidays approach.  As the weather gets colder and the night sparkles with decorations and fun events, families tend to spend more time together making memories that last a lifetime.  There is no shortage of family fun to be had in the Colorado Springs area, so whether you are looking for holiday-themed fun, art events, or outdoor activities, there is sure to be something on this list that will delight your family.

P.S.  All the events listed here are free!

Festival of Lights Family Fun Day – Annual event that offers musical performances, family crafts, and activities.  There will be local organizations providing hands-on history booths, activities, and demonstrations.

Super Awesome Game Night – Enjoy an awesome night of classic/vintage gaming, including video games, board games, role play games, and trivia.

Festival Of Lights Parade – The ultimate parade to kick-start the holiday season!  The parade starts in downtown Colorado Springs, and incorporates amazing light-up floats, dancers, music, and horses.  Over 3,000 participants are sure to make this a parade to remember.

Family Craft Night: Bath Bombs – December’s free family craft is a bath bomb, which would make an amazing Christmas gift for a teacher or grandparent.

US Air Force Academy Concert Band Holiday Tour – Enjoy the US Air Force Academy’s Concert Band performance of “Holly and Ivy”, featuring classic holiday music.

First Friday Art Walk and Free Shuttle – On the first Friday of every month, local merchants downtown open their doors later than usual, and host art shows, demonstrations, food and drink specials, and performances.  Walk around with the family and enjoy the unique community of downtown, or take the free shuttle bus that carries passengers from downtown to Old Colorado City and back.

Free Intro to Climbing Class – Come tour the City Rock Climbing Center and take an introductory climbing class, complete with climbing gear rental and food and drinks afterwards!  This class is for all ages, but children must be accompanied by a parent.  Advanced sign-up is required, but the event is completely free.  Whether you are new to climbing or just getting back into climbing after a break, you’re sure to learn a lot from this class.

Yule Ball 2018 – Calling all Harry Potter fans!  You are cordially invited to put on your wizardly best and attend the magical Yule Ball.  This yearly event allows participants to dance, create magical crafts, earn House Cup points, and enjoy other Harry Potter related activities.  Be sure to visit the Sorting Hat once you arrive, to be placed in the appropriate Hogwarts House.

Date:  December 15, 2:00-4:30 PM

Winterfest 2018 – A fun-filled family event with vendors, prizes, food, artists, and more.  Kids are invited to burn off energy in the bounce house and get their picture taken with Santa Claus!  Bring an extra pair of new socks for the men’s sock drive, or a new, unwrapped toy for the toy drive.

Recurring Event:

Santa’s Wonderland at Bass Pro Shops – Spend an evening with Santa and his elves, while your family enjoys snacks, games, and activities in the store.  The entire store will be decorated top to bottom with snow covered hills (stay warm while enjoying this snow!), trees, and lights.  Families can get a free photo with Santa, visit with the big guy, and even write a letter that will be delivered directly to the North Pole.
